Dropbox Security Breach

A few days ago there were rumors of a huge security breach with Dropbox accounts. It’s unclear to me whether or not this was as huge a breach as was reported, and it seems like Dropbox has been really on top of addressing it. And it also seems like the breach wasn’t directly within Dropbox, but rather it involved other sites and apps that link to Dropbox.

There’s a site you can use to check to see whether or not your Dropbox accounts was one of those that was affected bu the breach, and while you’re there you can add your email to be notified in the future of additioanal breaches that may arise.

Here’s the link to the site where you can check your account with Dropbox

Here’s a link to more information about the site developer for the link above

Troy Hunt is the developer of the website for checking security breaches. He uses the term Pwned which, when I Googled it means this:

Pwned
Pwn: from the verb own, as meaning to appropriate or to conquer, compromise or control. As you may know, pwn is a typo for “own.” In the context of a game, “own” is slang for “completely defeat the opponent; win by a large margin.”

Wondering what is sucking up your iPhone memory?

After reading this helpful blog post today, I checked my stats for photos and videos, and was pretty surprised to see the numbers. Something is definitely out of kilter, and I too am curious about what’s going on with this!
So I’m reblogging this both to try and get more feedback, and because I never actually reblogged anything before and I just wanted to try it out!

Post installation of iOS 8 I noticed a huge increase in memory usage. The offending app was Photos. I had several video files in the camera roll so I deleted them. But no matter what I deleted I couldn’t touch the memory usage.

Turns out when you delete a photo or video in iOS 8 it is not removed from memory. Instead the photos app moves the file to a ‘Recently Deleted’ album. Now you can recover recent deletions, but at the expense of valuable memory. This setup is not too bad if you delete photos as they don’t occupy much disk space, but it is a bad idea for deleted videos.

The remedy is to get into that album and delete permanently from there. As someone who frequently takes video shots for projects and could do with the memory this extra step is going to be a little bit…

Apple | New Live Event Links | Dates & Times

  • 2nd Update (3/9/15 1:30pm CST) | The Live Event just ended.  Apple has posted pictorial highlights here, and promised that they will have the live event video available for everyone to watch shortly, at the same web address.
  • To read more and get a very brief summary of the most important details announced today, see my yet-to-be written blog post.

Apple’s Live Event March 9th, 2015

1:00 PM  11:00 AM  Central Time

Apple Live March 9th

  • 1st Update (3/9/15) |  regarding the time for March 9th Event (posted March 9th 11:30)

Apple posted the wrong time on their website originally. They posted 10:00 am ET I think…or something like that. It was not Pacific Time! I know this because they provided a utility that would convert the time for you in your own time zone…which I did. The Apple utility converted the time to 11:00am CST…& then I was asked if I’d like to add the event to my Calendar…which I did!

I did read one article last weekend that mentioned 1:00 pm CST...but I assumed it was wrong or a type.

MacRumors just posted on their live event that Apple Online Store was closed down…which usually means only one thing…RESTOCKING for something new & BIG!

If you want to learn more about what this means and the restocking process you read my blog post about it here.

Event Info & Speculation

A few weeks ago Apple announced a live event which will be live streamed to all Apple users on March 9th, 2015.  While no one know exactly what will be discussed or announced during this exciting new event, there’s a lot of speculation floating around.

Most likely will be detailed news of Watch, which will be going on sale in April 2015.

Many suspect that Apple may announce a new larger iPad, with true multi-tasking features such as multi-screen functionality.  It’s likely that a new MacBook Air will be shown, and information about the Health App Apple released with ios 8.

Many, many new and tech sites are following the whole event and have their own events, or live blogs, which provide constant updates and tidbits of what’s happening during the pre-live-stream portion.  Below the main Apple link I’ll provide some links to some of my favorites!

The Verge:

The Verge is posting almost minute by minute coverage of the event that is not being live streamed.  The link below takes you to their constant news.  They’ve provided a lot of details for the new MacBook Pro that was announce around 10:30 PAC.

New iPad Air Pro With Touch ID Details Rumor Published by MacRumors

Will Apple Introduce a New iPad Pro in 2015?

Photo from MacRumors

MacRumors is One of The Most Reliable Websites Posting Leaked Apple News I FollowBack in October 2014, I ran across this article with a lot of details and photos, including the one above, of a possible new iPad Air announcement before the end of 2014.  Well, that didn’t actually ever happen in 2014, but many are convinced it is still a huge reality, and will happen in 2015 for sure.

MacRumors has once again been a kingpin in gathering together all of the evidence leading up to the iPad Pro’s reality.  So I decided to post this link to their newest article, which includes tons of evidence.  One more thing…the newest speculation regarding a name isn’t the ‘Pro’ but rather the iPad Air Plus.

Stay tuned for new information which will hopefully be forthcoming in Apple’s New Live Event on March 9th.

My Original Post in October 2014

Briefly, details leaked about the new iPad Air (iPad Air 2 ?) may include an new faster A8 processor, a possible 8 mp camera upgrade, higher RAM, new split screen multi-tasking, a new gold color option, and a new larger sized screen of 12.9″ (maybe called the iPad Air Pro?).

If even half of the leaked information is true, it’s an exciting development for Christmas 2014! Here’s a link to the full article
